I am ready to go fishing!

Just needing some time on a stream somewhere!!!!  I also get to go learn how to really tie some flies in a couple of weeks.  If I do that I may actually catch some fish one day.

Update:  I completed a fly tying class at Orvis the day where I tied some of the ugliest flies ever seen.

Here is the set up.

Practicing utilizing the Whip Finisher tool to tie off a fly.

My first fly. The Green Weenie.  I also tied a pink one.

The next several flies we tied were Whooly Buggers.

The five flies I tied during the class.

I also purchased one of their fly tying kits to see if I could actually tie some on my own (http://www.orvis.com/p/orvis-fly-tying-kit-with-manual/08xz).  I will post the results of my efforts and if I manage to catch a fish on a fly that I tie myself.

The first good find of the day - 1943 Quarter:

The next good find - a Mercury Dime:

The third good find - Another Mercury Dime. I kind of missed when I dug, but if you look closely you can see it near the middle top of the picture.

The finds for the day were:  One large gaming token,  one silver quarter, two mercury dimes, one silver Roosevelt dime, one buffalo nickel, seven wheat cents, about $2 dollars in clad change, one 7mm - 08 round, two bullets, a button, one broken watch, two cars, and one shotgun shell.

1942 Silver Quarter

One of my favorite coin finds is a 1942 Silver Quarter.  I just think it is a neat coin and I like how it came out of the ground.

It also cleaned up really nice and has some good detail.

1898 Barber Dime

Found a 1898 Barber Dime, 1918 Mercury Dime, Naval Uniform Cuff Button, and a Pewter Bracelet.

1898 Barber Dime & Naval Uniform Cuff button (maybe) - It's missing the back part and loop.

1918 Mercury Dime

If look hard near right of center of the plug you can see the edge of the Mercury Dime.  It's just above the break in the dirt.

Pewter Bracelet (maybe) - It is a bit bent up, but it looks hand made.  It looks like two wires twisted together, maybe hammered flat, and joined together.  It still has some areas that look like it was coated in silver or looked silver before it corroded.

Relic Hunting and a Silver Quarter

Had a good day of relic hunting.  Found some old bottles, a nice spoon, a flat button (1800s), a 1926 Wheat Penny, some other change, a 1930ish lipstick holder with lipstick, brass end from a paper shotgun shell, and a 1942 silver quarter.

Cataloochee Trout

Cataloochee Trout - Not big, but they were biting today. Lots of action on the surface. Every type of bug known to man was hatching so it was hard to miss.

Ammonite Fossil

Found a nice Ammonite fossil while out walking today.  We actually found two of them, but the rock the second one was in was too large to carry.  Amazing what you can find when you are looking for things.  It looks like this:

Procheloniceras Ammonite

We have found some fossil Crinoids in the past (see below), but nothing as nice as the Ammonite we found today.

Metal Detecting - We found SILVER!

It finally happened.  We found a 1913 Barber 1/2 Dollar using our AT Pro.  The initial hit was in the high 80s, but when we turned the plug over and scanned it it went into the 90s.  Here is the coin in the plug.

We also found an 1892 Greek Lepta coin, second from the left with the hole in the top, and several 1940s wheat pennies and a couple of tokens.  The token with the hole in the middle is for a dry cleaner the other is for shoes.  I hit the one for shoes with the shovel a couple of time and really messed it up.

We got some other strong signals that we tried to dig, but the ground was frozen.  We will go back and dig those when it warms up.
